Tonya Sandersfeld

Tonya is a dedicated literacy instructor committed to helping learners build strong reading, writing, and handwriting skills. She works with students of all ages and backgrounds, providing personalized instruction that builds confidence, strengthens foundational literacy skills, and fosters a lifelong love of reading. Her approach combines structure, encouragement, and research-based literacy practices to meet each learner’s unique needs and goals.
Tonya has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and music performance, as well as a master’s degree in K-12 reading instruction. She also has endorsements in K-8 reading, talented and gifted instruction, and dyslexia instruction. Since graduating from the University of Iowa fourteen years ago, she’s taught first grade at Amana Elementary. She loves helping her students become readers!
In her spare time, she likes to read, knit, and hang out with her two amazing kids! She also enjoys going for walks with the biggest troublemaker at her house, their goldendoodle Piper.
